Memorial University of Newfoundland invites applications for a permanent tenure or tenure-track librarian appointment as:

Associate University Librarian (Health Sciences)

Health Sciences Library

Description:

An exciting opportunity is available as Associate University Librarian (Health Sciences) to lead the development of the Health Sciences Library, one of four branch libraries at Memorial University Libraries. This is a time of change for the Health Sciences Library as its primary university stakeholders (Faculty of Medicine, School of Nursing, and School of Pharmacy) are expanding their education programs and exploring options for distributed learning. A major contractual client for library services is Eastern Health (Health Sciences Centre), which has plans to expand. The library also includes a growing archival service that primarily supports the Faculty of Medicine.

This position is responsible for ensuring that library operations are guided and developed in tandem with the strategic priorities of its primary stakeholders, the goals and objectives of Memorial University Libraries, and the University's overall strategic directions. A key component of the position is to proactively work with primary stakeholder units and library users to identify their needs, and to work with librarians and staff to establish appropriate service standards and unit priorities. The position is also responsible for administering an annual budget of approximately $2 million and a complement of six librarians and fourteen support staff.

The AUL (Health Sciences) reports to both the Dean of Medicine and the University Librarian.

The AUL (Health Sciences) participates in the system-wide administration of Memorial University Libraries, and, as part of the senior Branch Heads Management Team, actively participates in fulfilling Memorial University Libraries' priorities and outcomes. The incumbent is expected to represent and champion the unique needs of its primary users within the library system and within the health academic units. The incumbent also serves on various committees, both standing and ad hoc, of the primary stakeholder units, as well as participating in senior management meetings within these units.
