Esther
D. Rothblum, Ph.D.
Professor of Women's
Studies, San Diego State University, and former colleague in the
Department of Psychology, Esther will speak on lesbian studies (an
update of her and Beth Mintz's pioneering work on Lesbians in
Academia) and, on her new work in the field of "fat studies." Her
research and writing have focused on lesbian relationships and
mental health, and she is editor of the Journal of Lesbian
Studies. She has studied same-sex couples who had legal
relationships in Massachusetts, California, or Vermont. She has
just completed a study of lesbian communities, bisexual women's
communities, and communities of heterosexual sisters. She also
conducts research on the stigma of women's weight.
