Greetings,

My name is Macki Snyder and I am a member of Community, Academic, and Leadership Development (CALD) committee within the department of Residential Life. The CALD committee is primarily charged with supporting the community, academic, and leadership development of residential students, with specific focus on those involved in Hall Council and the Inter-Residence Association. The CALD committee will be hosting their annual STudent, Academic Recognition (STAR) Brunch, which is an initiative that recognizes the top 5% of our students in the residence halls with outstanding GPAs. The theme chosen for this year's ceremony is "From one star to a galaxy." This ceremony is an opportunity for faculty, staff, and families to celebrate  in the academic achievements of their students. The STAR Brunch will be held on April 15, 2012 at 11:00am in the Grand Maple Ballroom of the Davis Center. Below are descriptions for three awards that are given out at the STAR Brunch.

·         Perseverance Award-This award is presented to the student who best exemplifies a commitment to overcoming academic challenges and obstacles.

·         Mentor Award-This award is presented to a UVM community member (faculty, staff, or student) who fostered meaningful mentoring relationships based on academic success with undergraduate students.

·         Supportive Academic Staff Member Award-This award is presented to a staff member who exemplifies commitment and passion to working with UVM students in supportive academic roles to achieve scholastic success.

In an effort to obtain award nominations, the CALD committee would certainly appreciate your help in getting the word out about our three recognition awards (1) Perseverance Award (2) Mentor Award and (3) Supportive Academic Staff Member Award. If you can send this information out through your various listserves that would be greatly appreciated! I hope that you will also find time to nominate those worthy of recognition. Nominations forms are attached and due: March 26, 2012 by 12:00 midnight.

Thank you so much. Please let me know if you have questions.

Macki
