Full-time
Lecturer
in Speech and Debate
Position:
A
full-time lecturer, nine month position. Teaching experience and
knowledge of
competitive policy debate are essential. We are seeking an
individual who is
interested in teaching strong oral communication skills, working
with young
minds to build strong debaters, and working to further the level
of excellence
of the University of Vermont Debate Team.
Primary
Responsibilities:
Teach courses in Effective
Speaking, Fundamentals
of Policy Debate,
and Special Topics.
Typical course
load for academic year is 4/4. In addition, the individual will
assist in
coaching nationally competitive policy debate team. Travel with
the debate team
is expected. Summer employment is possible. Knowledge of WUDC
debate us a plus
but not required.
Facilities:
Speech
is housed in the Department of Theatre under the College of Arts
and Sciences.
The program is based at 475 Main Street in Burlington. It
provides classroom
experience for nearly 275 students a semester and supervises 30+
debaters in
various categories.
Qualifications:
Applicant must have at least an MA or PhD (ABD is
acceptable) in Speech
Communication and/or a related field (ask if you are unsure
about your
qualifications). Experience in competitive debate is essential.
S/he should
have both experience in and enthusiasm for undergraduate
education.
