Well, he's been on the Team for almost a decade and I think there are other things that he wants to do. He's got Mickey's  love of tinkering--he can build just about anything. As Ted Ligety once said, most ski racers buy fast cars with their money, Jimmy buys an excavator.  He's done a lot of work for the area, which I assume he may do more of, and there's also Slopeside Syrup, the sugaring business he started in 2010 with his cousins Roger, Douglas, & Timmy.

Jimmy's definitely not one of those athletes who only knows competing.

So he's retiring relatively young and still near the top of his game.  Any word on why?

he could ski as fast as anyone on the planet.

That's the funny thing about this sport of ski racing - being the fastest just isn't good enough.

It's a great story.  Having finally made it to Cochrans to witness some of the family in action, I can appreciate Matt's comments - there are a lot of decent people around that place and I am sure Jimmy is too. Congratulations to Jimmy Cochran on a great career.
