The changes the treasurers primarily wanted was the ability to legally communicate with escrow companies, lawyers and abstractors, and those with power of attorney about balances due and other tax bill information, in light of the VT Supreme Court decision. Going back to annual filing of the homestead is a pain, but letís just hope it stays this way and they donít change it again!

A friend of mine in the legislature (who voted against this) said that they were told the treasurers asked for this change
Board of Listers, Chair
Town of Fairfield
Just an FYI, The Miscellaneous local tax changes bill (H.782, Act 143) was passed which requires everyone to go back to annual filing of homestead declarations.
They also changed the date for late filings from September 1 to October 15th.
How confusing is that going to be?
