Whitman
College seeks a Parliamentary – Policy Debate Coach for the
2012-13 academic year who will work with the program director
and coaching staff and a diverse group of approximately 24
parliamentary debaters and 8 policy debaters. This is a
full-time position that begins August 15, 2012.
The
work schedule includes drills most afternoons and evenings
during the debate season, completing research assignments
prior to tournaments, attending tournaments each weekend from
mid-September to mid-November and early January through early
April, and in April and May, being involved in additional team
events when the debate season is over.
Successful
candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree, familiarity with
both parliamentary (NPDA-NPTE) and policy (CEDA-NDT) debate,
and have experience coaching or debating on a national level
in one or both of these types of debate. Ideal candidates will
produce high quality output, demonstrate initiative and
problem solving skills, work well with and reach out to other
students and coaches and support the team’s cooperative
philosophy and all components of our program including
parliamentary debate, policy debate, individual events, and
on-campus debates. Throughout, ideal candidates maintain a
positive attitude while being ready to make changes in
coaching based on student and director input.
