Hello  Isogeochemists -

Can someone please recommend  methods for preparing and measuring the dD of both the total H’s and non-exchangeable (alkanoic) H’s of low-molecular-weight fatty acids (~C2-C6)?  I suppose that the dD of the total H’s would be via an H20-equilibration method and that the non-exchangeable H’s would be measured after derivatizing the carboxyl –O-H. Is that right?  What kind of derivatives should be used?  I would appreciate your help.

Although I looked in the ISOGEOCHEM archive, I couldn’t find anything on these topics.

Thanks in Advance,

John J.
