Our library has sprinklers over the stacks, one head leaked but no damage
(it was during library hours and we were able to drape plastic over the
stack and contain the water). During construction in another part of the
hospital the sprinkler system was accidently activated and flooded the
server room underneath the area. It totally shut down our computer systems
for a day.

We have sprinklers too. Fortunately, they haven't had to test them. The
ceiling did leak did leak during a horrid storm and damaged a number of
books (quite a mess to "fix" to say the least) but I think I would rather
replace books than try and "unburn" someone's skin.

We have a sprinkler system in the library and my office but the sprinkler
heads have been removed on the outlets directly over our movable stacks.

Subject: Sprinkler Systems in Libraries?

Hi, all
The library here underwent a protracted occupied renovation project two
years ago that did not include installation of a sprinkler system. This
year's renovation project involved replacing the windows, repairing parts of
the roof and watersealing/painting the stucco envelope. Next year's phase
will rip out old and new ceilings to install a water sprinkler system. I'd
love to hear your positive and negative experiences with water sprinklers in
print collections-centric space and computer labs. I asked the campus
architect about using a Halon gas system instead and was told the price was
prohibitive. Thanks.
