Subject: VMCTA Annual Meeting and Conference -- Registration Deadline is September 7th!

REMINDER—Deadline to register for the VMCTA Annual Meeting and Conference is September 7th!!

With the State Primary behind us, it is now time to focus on the upcoming VMCTA 76th Annual Meeting and Conference at the Killington Grand Resort Hotel & Conference Center in Killington, Vermont.

If you haven’t registered yet and are still deciding on whether to attend, here are some reasons why you should send in your registration today!

1.      If you are working toward your certification as Clerk and/or Treasurer the educational courses being offered are part of the required courses and will not be offered for another two years.

2.      Kathy Scheele, Director of Elections and her staff will be giving two very detailed and important Elections Workshops that will benefit new and seasoned Clerks alike especially for the upcoming General Election in November:

·         The first workshop on Monday afternoon will focus on Election Day procedures with emphasis on the various responsibilities of the Presiding Officer, Board of Civil Authority members, and appointed elections officials.

·         The second workshop, also on Monday afternoon, will start with a discussion of the Election Night Reporting pilot project and a review of the EAC Election Administration survey that must be completed by Clerks after each General Election.  This workshop will wrap up with Zach Markovits on the staff of PEW charitable trusts Election Initiatives Division joining Kathy Scheele to discuss the Election Performance Index that PEW will be releasing nationwide in December.  This document presents a national picture of election Administration issues as well as a state by state analysis.

3.      Records Retention has been quite a hot topic on the Muninet and VMCTA list serves.  Trevor Lewis will be bringing us up to date on Vermont’s basic requirements as they relate to the custody and eventual disposition of public records, Vermont’s new approaches to records and information management, and resources to implement these measures.

4.      During the first half of the Vital Records workshop, Rich McCoy will bring us up to date on the Real ID Act which has a January 2013 compliance date.  The second half will be a round table discussion with Clerks from the hospital towns of Brattleboro, Bennington, Middlebury and Randolph on hand to answer questions you may have regarding Vital Records.

5.      For Treasurers we have two important and informative workshops:

·         Cash Management—presented by State Treasurer, Beth Pearce—will cover the 7 components of Cash Management, Cash Flow Projections, steps to preparing a monthly cash flow forecast, Vermont State Treasury Permitted Investments, and much more.

·         Principles of Banking—presented by VTGFOA President, Cheryl Lindberg—will cover banking RFP’s, establishing policies and much more.

6.      You also have the option of attending one or both Public Speaking workshops by Pat Vaillancourt.  Public speaking skills are important whether you are giving a presentation to a large audience or a three person Select Board.

7.      Finally, the Annual Conference is starting and ending with two very knowledgeable, inspiring and dynamic speakers:

·         Monday morning, UVM Professor, Alec Ewald will lead us in a lively discussion on voting rights and election administration—a workshop that every legal voter should attend.

·         Tuesday afternoon, motivational speaker, Murray Banks will send us off with a hilarious and inspiring message with tips for leadership, adapting to change, life balance and staying focused on exceptional service to our “customers”.
