I would suggest that once the tax book has been printed then something be attached to it (lets call it a warrant) that is signed by the selectboard instructing the treasurer or collector of taxes to proceed to collect the taxes.
PVR uses a warrant that looks like the one below when providing the tax book to the supervisor of the unorganized towns (Somerset, Glastenbury, Buels Gore). That warrant is called for in 32 VSA §4966.
This isnt meant to be a burden. It simply creates a public record of the official act of the selectboard in establishing the rates to be used and approving the tax book/tax bills to be issued. I suggest this might be an issue for the VMCTA to discuss.

I would be interested to know of any Select Boards that are preparing tax bills these days and, if the task has been assigned to the collector of current taxes or the Treasurer, how is the Select Board to prepare such a warrant?
Jack Beasley, selectman
Town of Salisbury
Can you show me what this might look like on paper.
The warrant for current taxes is required under 24 VSA §1521.

I have the delinquents ones. This is a warrant from the Selectboard TO the Collector of Current taxes to allow him/her to collect. It is supposed to be given to the collector along with all the tax bills the Selectboard printed. :-)))
Something new brought to my attention this year.

Ryegate's treasurer/tax collector signs and turns a warrant over to the Delinquent Tax Collector after the due date. I can fax you one, Roberta.
Are there any towns out there where the Selectboard gives a warrant to the Collector of Current Taxes or Treasurer for the collection of current taxes along with the tax bills?
This is something that was brought to my attention by the Collector of Delinquent Taxes and is listed as a statute in her handbook under "levying current taxes".
I have never received a warrant from the Selectboard in the past but the Delinquent Collector is saying she will not collect delinquent taxes if I can't show her the document signed and sealed by our Selectboard.
If you have one and don't mind sharing the document I would appreciate it.
(I'm definitely getting to old to learn all these new tricks lol)
