About the film: A city is ravaged by an epidemic
of instant “white blindness.” Those first afflicted are quarantined
by the authorities in an abandoned mental institution where the
newly created “society of the blind” quickly breaks down. A gripping
drama that asks, “are all things equal when you cannot see?” What
implications does this have for our work as educators? Our post-film
discussion will focus on the powerful themes and our assumptions
about how we think, speak, and act amidst the dominant paradigms in
which we operate [Run time: 121 minutes].
About the Faculty and Staff Development Series: Brought
to you by the Center for Cultural Pluralism, the Faculty and Staff
Development Series offers participants an educational opportunity to
dialogue and issues of intersecting identities and explore
implications for their work as educators. Past programs have
included dinner/discourse film screenings, visiting scholars, panel
discussions, and social justice training programs.
About the Center for Cultural Pluralism: Established
in 1999 at the Allen House, the Center for Cultural Pluralism
(CCP) is dedicated to helping UVM achieve its core mission
to provide quality multicultural education in order to equip
faculty, staff and students with the competencies necessary to
function in a diverse world. Focusing on the complex intersections
of issues of culture and social justice, the Center offers a
unique “Cultural Hub” where individuals and organizations working
on behalf of cultural diversity and social justice issues
can collaborate and coalesce.
We hope you join us. Please remember, registration is required.
With deepest respect,
Dirk
