Report submitted by John Anderson ([log in to unmask])

Site Description:
The Putney Mountain Hawk Watch is located on the summit of Putney Mountain.
It is a prominent N - S ridge at an elevation of 1660 ft. The mountain has
excellent views NW, W, S, E and NE. Typical flight path comes from the NE
in the Connecticut River Valley and heads SW into the West River Valley.

Directions to site:
Putney is in the Southeast corner of the state, exit 4 off of I-91, 20
miles north of the Massachusetts border and 5 miles west of the Connecticut
River. To find Putney Mountain from I-91: Take exit 4 (Putney). Go north on
Rt 5 into the town of Putney. In the center of town make a left onto
Westminster West Road and follow for about 1 mile. Look for West Hill Road
on the left and take that road for another few miles. Look for Putney
Mountain Road on the right and take that road (dirt) for a few more miles
until you reach the high point. There will be a parking area off to the
right through the trees. Park there and then follow the dominant trail
along the ridge until you get to the clearing. Walking time is about 15
minutes.
