Happy Weekend Seedlings! Here is the lesson from this week's meeting as promised. Don't forget to let your schools know that you won't be there the week after next because of Thanksgiving break. Keep up the good work everyone! Topic: Hibernation Intro: -What have you been noticing about the weather lately? -How are animals preparing for the winter? -What is hibernation? -Who hibernates? • Bears • Hamsters • Ladybugs • Mice • Bats • Chipmunks • Raccoons • Skunks • Groundhogs -How do animals prepare for hibernation? ex: squirrels gathering nuts in the fall to fatten up -Why must animals hibernate? -How do humans "hibernate?" ex: Are we outside on cold, cold nights? Activity #1: Hibernation Tag -acted as animals' strategies for winter in the form of freeze tag. One person is "it" as "winter" and the tag animals. Another person is "spring" and they unfreeze the animals. -Themes to talk about: hibernation, migration, dormancy, keeping active Activity #2: Who woke the sleepy bear? -Have all the children sit in a circle. One child will sit in the middle and pretend to sleep all curled up like a bear hibernating. Make sure their eyes stay closed! Pick a child and have them sneak up and touch the bear then quickly return to their spot in the circle. Then everyone in the circle says WAKE UP SLEEPY BEAR! WAKE UP! and the child will then sit up and have to guess who woke them up. Let them guess 3 times. -Kind of like Heads Up, Seven Up xoxo, Taylor
