Yesterday afternoon there were at least 20 pine grosbeaks in the crabapple trees in the industrial park on Community Dr, off of Kimball Ave, in South Burlington. About a half dozen of them hopping (or more like waddling- these have got to be the most rotund of any passerines) around the ground eating the fallen fruits under one set of trees.

There were also a few birds (4 or 5) in the row of crabapple trees across from the Subaru dealer on Shelburne Rd.

Judging by the number of fruits in the trees at both these locations, and the reports off and on the past month or two from both sites, these seem like pretty good bets for this species around Burlington as long as they hang around this region.
