Ah... remember the days when the PHOTOCOPIER room was staffed and how panicked educators were when they could not COPY their worksheets for the day.

Recently I was  working at a school  where an internal server was down for a few days due to a challenge related to recent flooding/storm.
My job was to run inteference  to give the IT staff a chance to  troubleshoot and fix the situation.
Most of my time was spent answering the question  "Will it be fixed tomorrow or do I have to plan something different"

Anybody remember Louis CK's rant "Technology's Happy and Nobody's Happy"

C.K. talked about how annoying telephones used to be, for example, when we didn't have cell phones and landline phones were attached to the wall and had rotary dials. Here's another bit from the dialog:

"I was on an airplane, and there was Internet -- high-speed Internet on the airplane. That's the newest thing that I know exists. And I'm sitting on the plane, and they go, 'open up your laptop, you can go on the Internet.' And it's fast, and I'm watching YouTube clips. It's amazing. I'm in an airplane!

And then it breaks down. And they apologize [that] the Internet's not working, and the guy next to me goes, 'Phhh! This is bull$#@!"

Like how quickly the world owes him something he knew existed only ten seconds ago."

You joke, but some teachers and students could use an emergency plan. I was thinking kids CAN use the excuse that google docs was down for a reason why they couldn't print out a paper - same as me saying the dog ate my homework.

A teacher called me today and said her entire lesson plan revolved around the kids accessing their google docs.

Having spoken with a couple of panicked teachers this morning... should we begin to do "No-Technology Drills" so teachers have an Emergency Plan?

I was just talking to someone from Williston about their day OFF yesterday  due to some accident that impacted  access to the school

It was interesting to hear them say,  We had to cancel school because we had to water.. food..  electricity  or internet...

sure sign of the times  when 'no internet'  gets put in the same sentence  as the other reasons school should be cancelled.

Is anyone else experiencing issues with Google Apps today or is it just our district?
