I actually enjoy camera-on-a-stick (or other inventive versions thereof) perspective. There is something really interesting about the singularity-like fixed POV of the cam, juxtaposed against the motion of the view, that is entirely different than when on a head strap, helmet, etc.
It is a totally different perspective and in very short bursts or(and) with rapidly changing scenery I do think it works well - Joshua Auerbach posted a video a while back that made me forget it was on a stick, as a good example.
