Adelaide Microscopy, the University of Adelaide’s Centre for Advanced Microscopy and Microanalysis, is a central facility providing enabling technologies to the research students and staff of the University. The School of Earth & Environmental Science has recently acquired two new Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometers (IRMSs) with associated instrumentation which will be managed through Adelaide Microscopy. This IRMS facility provides stable isotope analysis and specialised support to researchers and research students of the University, and through this contributes to our reputation as a world-class, research intensive University. The IRMS facility provides a cost effective method for students to value add to their research experience, and for research staff to achieve excellence in their research. It also provides access to researchers from other Universities, publicly funded bodies and industry on a fee-for-service basis. 
We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to provide expertise during installation and setup of the IRMS facility, operate the instruments and be responsible for their maintenance. As the successful incumbent you will also deliver high quality training, assistance and advice for all users of the IRMSs and will service a range of biological and geological applications. You will work in collaboration with a range of researchers from the University of Adelaide, partners and other institutions. 
The IRMS Facility is based in the School of Earth & Environmental Sciences on the North Terrace Campus in the Mawson Building. 

You should have: 

 Specialised expertise in the setting up, maintenance and operation of Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer and associated analytical instruments 

 Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with clients, students, academic and research staff 

 The ability to engage as part of an extended team, but also to be self-motivated and to work alone 

 A detailed understanding of HS&W requirements in a laboratory environment 

 Relevant tertiary education and substantial relevant experience 

Salary: (HEO7) $73,821 - $82,817 per annum. 

Plus an employer superannuation contribution of 9.25% applies. 

Term of Position 
This full time, fixed term position is available for a period of one year from November 2013.
