William, and anyone else interested in hawk migration, here's a fascinating post by Paul Roberts, founder of the Eastern Mass. Hawkwatch and student of migration patterns, a narrative of what was seen at Mt. Wachusett on what should have been a fairly lousy day by "conventional wisdom" that ultimately amounted to more than 12,000 birds, followed by some interesting observations about the whole phenomenon. Well worth reading. http://birding.aba.org/message.php?mesid=517116&MLID=MASS&MLNM=Massachusetts Jane (Shoreham) On 9/19/2013 9:41 AM, Willem Leenstra wrote: > Is there a time of day when the numbers are higher than others?
