I'll be interested in how well they work since we are looking at getting 40 of them for our 5th and 6th grade.

I've been converting our netbooks to Linux Mint for speed, etc.

For those of you looking at ordering the Chromebook 14 - they make a business version that has 4GB of RAM rather than the regular 2GB.

I just ordered some for one of our elementary schools.  I ordered them through Marcus at Panurgy - great price at $299 each.  If you want to be able to manage them in your GAE domain you can order that for $30 each.  They also offer HP carepacks with accidental protection if you are interested in that too.

Here is Marcus's contact information if anyone is interested:

I am curious to get my hands on one of the acer touchscreens.    I had very bad luck with the Intel Classmate touchscreens breaking easier than traditional LCD.

I've been using the Samsung $249 chromebook for the past year with no issues...I've setup a GAE domain with Teacher Dashboard and the Remote Control module where you can see each student chromebook's screen, tabs open and have the ability to send messages a pop up on their screen,  push urls to all devices as well as close tabs that they have open.
As you point out the new Acer Touchscreen Chromebook for $299 looks very interesting...lots of options for chromebooks out there...The G+ Community, Chromebook EDU is worth joining and connecting with many schools who have gone 1:1 chromebook
