Do we need any sort of event code to book at the east west center?

Looks like a great deal.

There is not an official tournament hotel. The rounds will be held at the University of Hawaii campus. The East West Center is also located on the UH campus and I recommend that programs on a budget stay with them due to the low cost of rooms and the convenience of walking to rounds.

You may visit their website at: http://www.eastwestcenter.org/about-ewc/housing/visitor-housing

Please let me know if you would like a list of sponsored hotels with room rates around $149/night.

Aloha,
Tom

Subject: Pan Pacific Championship and Hawaii Cup

Aloha Colleagues:

You are cordially invited to the paradise of Hawaii to join Hawaii Pacific University and the University of Hawaii in two tournaments over three days on the beautiful island of Oahu. The 2nd annual Hawaii Cup will begin the competition on Friday, February 14th, followed by the 7th annual Pan Pacific Championship on Saturday and Sunday, February 15th and 16th. This three day, two-tournament competition is open to U.S. and international colleges and universities providing an excellent opportunity for teams to prepare for the USU National Championship.

The Pan Pacific Championship will feature six preliminary debates and a semifinal and final round. All rounds will be debated in WUDC format. The Co-Chief Adjudicators of last year’s tournament were Josh Martin, the CA for the 2013 National Championship and Daniel Hugo, a two-time finalist of the Pan Pacific Championship, with Tuna Snider from the Vermont running tab. The 2013 tournament featured representatives from throughout the country including, Stanford, Vermont, Willamette, and Loyola. The 2014 Pan Pacific will again have Tuna serving as tab room director and Rob Boller, Convener of 2015 USU National Championship serving as CA. Information about DCA’s will be forthcoming. The Pan Pacific and Hawaii Cup events feature the beautiful setting of Honolulu, the welcoming atmosphere of both the largest public and private university’s in Hawaii, and challenging competition from around the world.

Early registration for the tournament will begin November 15, 2013 with the regular registration period opening December 15, 2013. Schools that register during the early registration period will be eligible for subsidized housing during the tournament. Places will be allocated in order of registration date and time. The last day of registration will be on Friday, February 1, 2014. Early registration is recommended and greatly appreciated. Vermont, La Verne, Davis, and Loyola have already verbally committed to attend this year’s tournament.

If you have any questions or would like additional information regarding the tournament, travel, or Hawaii please do not hesitate to contact either Thomas Dowd or Robert Boller. All of us at Hawaii Pacific University and the University of Hawaii look forward to seeing you in February at the Hawaii Cup and Pan Pacific Championship.

Cheers,
