Skype is still the way to go.  Still free  I've not used it in a while.   And Yes "they" do listen in.   My son is going overseas for his jr year, so I really enjoyed this discussion.

We're looking for something either free of inexpensive that would allow the trip leaders (and possibly students) to communicate easily and inexpensively with each other.
