To The University of
Vermont Community:
The University of Vermont joins Fletcher
Allen Partners in announcing a name change
today. Fletcher Allen Partners, the
organization that includes Fletcher Allen
Health Care in Burlington and three other
affiliated hospitals in Vermont and New
York, is changing its name to The University
of Vermont Health Network. In addition,
Burlington’s Fletcher Allen Health Care will
be known as The University of Vermont
Medical Center.
This is an important development for both
Fletcher Allen and UVM, and it has my full
and enthusiastic support.
This
change also has been approved by the
University’s Board of Trustees. The
initiative does not revise the independent
corporate nature of the University of
Vermont Health Network and UVM, but places a
stronger emphasis on the shared academic
missions of both organizations.
This collective decision will enhance the
local, regional, and national reputations
and quality of all of the entities now
bearing the University of Vermont name, and
makes more visible to the general public and
to patients the important work that the
University and these hospitals are doing
together. This new designation will signal
clearly to people in the region that they
have access to a very high quality health
network, aligned with one of the top 10
academic medical centers in the country,
which has a continuing strong commitment to
providing exceptional patient care and
effectively controlling costs.
I am pleased to be sharing this good news
with you today, and appreciate the
cooperative spirit between our organizations
that has made this very positive change
happen. Additional details are included in a
press release that may be found here:

Tom Sullivan,
