Martha, you are correct except for those who are charter towns and have the ability (per their charter) to set additional fees as the council or select board passes. We have additional fees for those who are late and it increases the longer the dog is not registered.

Dog fees and late fees are set in statute and should be the same in every town.

Our fees are:
$18 / $12 s/n April 1
$27 / $18 s/n after April 1
However, there is no enforcement.
We call those who have not reregistered; there is nothing to enforce dogs never registered.
Except... the threat that a dog picked up for any reason that is not registered can get a civil fine in the form of a ticket.

What do other towns do when a pet owner fails to register a dog by the annual April 1 deadline? What are your late fees/penalties? Do you issue municipal tickets?
