In British Columbia, Calgary is pronounced "CalGARY" like the names "Cal" and "Gary" spliced together.

Then there's Natick, Peabody, Billerica and I have no idea anymore how Worcester is really supposed to be pronounced.........

It's
like that here as well. Only furriners pronouce Toronto as
"tor-ON-tow" To locals, it's simply "TRAW-na"

"Niagara Falls" is properly pronounced
"NY-gra"

Strangest place name butchering of any place I've ever been
is "Dubois, WY, which is locally pronounced "DOO-boyz" rather than
"DUEW-bwah" (there is a similar town name in Idaho pronounced exactly like
in WY).

wanted

I was corrected this week when I pronounced the other Charlotte
(N.C.) as I would Charlotte. I had to explain that where I'm from, it's
shr-LOT.
