We recently ordered one of these:

http://www.averusa.com/communication/hvc-business.asp

Its a dedicated H232 system (like the Polycoms / Tandbergs), does recording(!), and 720p quality.  We're pretty happy with it through initial testing and it's quality is in the realm of the much more expensive Polycom systems that we also own.

We picked the AVer up for around $1100 at Amazon, but I see that it's currently out of stock there...

For the best quality video conferences, a dedicated H232 system is the way to go, as John suggested... Although you'll need a bridge (like the LNV) to do more than a point-to-point (2 users) telecon.  What's really nice about this AVer is that it has a built in 4 way bridge (MCU), allowing up to four users to connect.  You could also use a service like Fuze to serve as the bridge... lots of options to choose from in the H232 realm.

Best of luck,
Pat

Have you given any thought to using the Conference rooms using Scopia Desktop that can be set up on the VTLNV, they are free?  There is also the free jabber client that is a download from Cisco.

There is also the Polycom and Cisco VCS equipment that can be set up for point to point calls.

I am also interested in more information.

Keith,

This is something I would be interested in too, so either on list or could you share?

A question - what do these video conferences look like?  Is it a room of people with several remote people joining in?  Is it a room of people in one location talking to a room of people in another location?  Is it a lot of people who are all at their own remote site coming together to the video conference?

I foresee interactive video as becoming a desired tool in our schools.  Trying to stay ahead of the Tsunami!

Hiya folks.

I work with a Nurse who is trying to put together a somewhat portable conferencing package.  He belongs to a group that gets together on occasion and they do video conferencing.  While they have used Google Hangouts and other application based video tools, they are looking for something that might be used with higher quality, group video/audio, projector, wireless (other than dongle/VGA Adapter perhaps), PC/Mac compatible and with a budget of $1500.

Off List - unless you feel it would benefit the list.

Thanks in advance.
