JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY AND LEARNING RESOURCES Supervisor: Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment Qualifications: Education: Master's Degree from an ALA (American Library Association) accredited program Required Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience overseeing library services in a college/university or similar library setting Preferred Experience: Health sciences librarianship, PubMed and evidence-based medicine search skills Preferred Credential: Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) membership Responsibilities: The Director of the Library and Learning Resources reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment and is assigned the following responsibilities: 1. Directs all Library/Learning Resources Center programs and services, including facility use, individualized instruction and other designated programs and services 2. Implements acquisition, circulation, collection development and deaccession policies a. The director is to exercise professional judgment in the performance of these responsibilities upon recommendations of the faculty and within institutional budgets 3. Coordinates the operation of the Learning Resources Center including the acquisition of material for learning resources 4. Maintains an integrated library system and online catalog of print and online resources 5. Provides leadership in developing access to electronic information resources and multimedia products, and otherwise works with faculty to augment materials and informational services that support the teaching/learning functions of the Institution 6. Creates a library web page, keeps it updated, develops its content and links, adds proxy codes for restricted off-campus access 7. Coordinates the introduction of technological advances in information access into the Library/Learning Resources Center and supervises ongoing programs to instruct faculty and students in such use 8. Arranges interlibrary loan (ILL) participation with copyright-compliant networks for journal articles 9. Ensures that Library/Learning Resources Center practices are consistent with local, state and federal laws, and other contracts or agreements 10. Participates in local, regional, and national professional organizations, library consortiums and networks 11. Staffing a. Submits staffing recommendations to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment and to the Dean b. Responsible for the supervision of assigned faculty and staff c. Informs and counsels faculty on matters related to the improvement of librarianship 12. Budget a. Assists in planning the College budget by organizing and submitting in a timely fashion the Library/Learning Resources budget for the coming fiscal year 13. Attends meetings of specific instructional groups and serves on college committees and task forces as required or assigned 14. Serves in additional librarian capacities (reference and orientation) as needed 15. Compiles data and prepares pertinent and accurate reports, including usage statistics, library policies and procedures 16.
