Sounds great. Along the same line, awhile back, I contacted VITA-Learn board members about a mentoring program for newly minted IT Coordinators, Directors, and the like. We are fortunate in Vermont to have so many highly respected technology leaders with years of experience managing IT and AT. I would love to see VITA-Learn embrace the opportunity to guide/develop these resources state-wide.

Seems like that's the umbrella for this kind of a project.  Maybe a task force could work on this and collaborate with Workforce Development folks, and Economic Development folks on this track.

Without integration support built-in it's difficult to know which technologies provide the most benefit to the curriculum. I don't agree with Robin that there are two different beasts. There is IT (tech support)  and AT (academic support) and they are two faces of the same support system required for teachers, students, staff, and administration to be successful.

I love your idea of marketing the role via noteworthy/newsworthy media outlets. I'm very willing to collaborate on articles, interviews, marketing strategies, and more, to get information out to stakeholders. This is an action-oriented, productive strategy. Let's expand on this and get folks working together to educate the public on the role of technology integration.

I also think it is incorrect to place any kind of hierarchy as to value to the two roles - both are highly skilled, professional roles.  And - they are very different - I think the tech folks understand this, but perhaps not Principals, and I think we are essentially all in agreement here in this thread.
