11/23/14 Conference Call

• Science for the People Radio Program
  • WBAI situation always in flux, but would still be a good place for us to get a start with the radio program
  • Interest from some people who work at WBAI
  • Larry will do outreach to folks concerning radio, hasn’t had time but will do soon

• Appalachian studies conference: talk and poster
  • Julie, Johnathan, Frank, Ben, Paul
  • Two proposals
    • Panel Presentation - 1hr 15min
      • History of Science for the People, issues of science and society
    • Poster Presentation
      • Trifold board and Pamphlets
      • Informational materials
      • “Starter kit” for initiating SftP meetings and groups
      • Old magazines, flyers, business cards
      • Putting video of panel and information on website
        • Amherst SftP site could work for this purpose for now
      • Producing report back - written article and audio for radio
      • Convening in Amherst to produce materials?
        • Julie, Sigrid, possibly Jonathan and Charlie

• Website update
  • Charlie, Johnathan, and Paul had a phone call concerning the website
  • Discussion with Sigrid to migrate to the conference website, will be possible
  • Putting video on website, Dick Levins lectures
  • No one has offered articles yet, maybe an issues of outreach and time
  • Sending request for content to the broader SftP listserv

• Overall purpose of a new SftP-who has ideas how we can make a mark/have a niche?
  • Need for more internal organization to tackle particular issues of science and society?
  •  Discussion of theory and practice
    • Bringing people into both the discussion and into realizing ideals
  • How to contribute to a better understanding of science in activist communities?
  • How to contribute to putting science in service of ‘movement work’?

  • Julie and Jonathan working to develop Hippocratic Oath for Scientists
