Bryan,

I tried the chromecast route on a cheap netbook.  It was an unmitigated disaster :(  the Screen resolution issues between netbooks and new tv's was a bit of a pain to overcome.

But more importantly, the chromecast failed at really random times, but never quite lasted a day. Once in a while I'd come in in the morning and it would still be casting, but for the most part it went down at some point during the day.

I'm going to look into Bjorn's suggestion...

We use http://www.risevision.com/, which is a free web-based software that integrates with Google Apps very nicely.    It is a digital signage solution so it can manage multiple displays and times.

It works best when run from a ChromeBox, but I have also got it to work from an android stick and raspberry pi.

All,

Our high school is interested in purchasing one to three large televisions to display pictures of kids, slide shows, etc. My Son attends Thomas Flemming in Essex Junction and they do what we want, but only on one television. I'm looking for some ideas how to do this on multiple televisions that may be in a downstairs and upstairs. One idea I have is a $35 chromecast, and a cheap computer. If you do this in your school, could you please tell me what you do, and the estimated cost?

Thanks,
Bryan
