We’ve been using Logitech Z130 speakers here for several years.  Nothing fancy, and about $20 - $25, but they play loud enough for most spaces.

Looking for something for classroom-quality sound for un der $50.  We had
tons of desktop speakers over the years, and they went out of fashion
about 5 years ago.  Then in the last 2 years, our faculty have been doing
a lot more presentations off of their computers, and the
built-in-to-monitor models aren't cutting it.  Fine for small
station-based work, not so great for showing a Discovery Streaming clip to
22 kids.

I had found a good deal on some Logitech ones but they needed a fancy
sound card.  These need to have room-filling sound (not necessarily home
theater quality), use a 3.5mm headphone input, and be under $50 ($25-range
preferred).  Am I asking too much?
