Had a long conversation with help desk and they provided additional links with some possibilities to try...nothing concrete as of yet.

I suspect this will continue.  If I happen upon a "fix" I will forward along.

Mac, OS 10.8.4-10.9.1, SBAC 7.2, Auto Updates off, iTunes helper not in startup items, iTunes prefs set to not update or tickle the web.  Randomly in testing, Secure Browser halts due to iTunes starting in background.  Does not appear that students are using Function/Media keys (top row).
