The Vermont Beef
Producers Association
will hold the annual
Spring Feeder Cattle
Sale on Saturday,
May 9th, 2015 at 11am
at the Champlain Valley
Exposition in Essex
Jct., VT. Cattle are
delivered to the sale
grounds on Friday May
8th, 2015. We are
expecting another great
sale. Recent sale data
is available to all VBPA
members by contacting
any board member and
requesting it.
NEW TO THIS SALE
is the consignment of
cows and cow-calf pairs,
as well as a new late
consignment category
allowing consignments up
to one week prior to the
sale. Please see the
enclosed announcement of
these enhancements to
our sale, or find out
more at vtbeef.org.
ALSO NEW TO THIS
SALE: With
the help of Kent
Anderson, DVM, we have
updated the approved
vaccine list for the
VBPA cattle sales. The
update is made due to
changes in the
manufacturer of some of
the products, and the
addition of new
products, and that one
of the products listed
in the earlier
regulations is no longer
available. If you have
any questions about
vaccines, please contact
Kent at the number shown
below, or Nelson Lamson
at 802-457-5140 [log in to unmask],
or Steve Brown at
802-457-1196 [log in to unmask]
6. All
vaccinated cattle MUST
receive “Vista Once
Sub Q” (Merck) OR
“Bovi-Shield Gold One
Shot” (Zoetis) OR
“Bovi-Shield MH One”
(Zoetis) OR “Pyramid 5
+ Presponse SQ”
(Boehringer
Ingelheim). Vaccines
must be administered
in the animal’s neck,
following label
directions, during the
vaccination period
specified below and
must be certified by
the producer. If you
have any questions
contact Kent Anderson
at 802-462-2233. Make
sure to record the
serial number and
expiration date for
the vaccine, and
keep the information
in a safe place.
The serial number and
expiration date MUST
be recorded on the
Waybill which will be
sent to you prior to
the sale. The
purchase and cost of
the vaccine is the
responsibility of the
producer. Failure to
comply with this
regulation will result
in cattle being sold
as non-vaccinated
cattle.
We encourage all area
beef producers to take
advantage of this sale.
You don’t have to be a
member of VBPA to
attend, and cattle
growers from surrounding
areas outside Vermont
are encouraged to
participate. This is
one of the premiere
cattle sales in the area
and helps set the prices
for the market
throughout the year.
Whether you’re new in
the industry or an old
hand, you can find
cattle to start or to
grow your operation with
the confidence that they
have been
pre-conditioned,
inspected, graded and
priced accordingly. If
you are selling cattle,
you’ll get fair prices
and be exposed to a wide
range of buyers with the
opportunity to get more
money for your cattle
than you may get by
selling direct from the
farm.
VBPA will help you if
you have questions.
Just call or email and
we’ll walk you through
this process. It’s easy
and helps build the beef
industry in the area.
Let’s work together!
This sale is put on by
VOLUNTEERS! There is a
tremendous amount of
work that goes into each
sale. We can use your
help! The consignment
form has a special area
for volunteers to sign
up. If you are unable
to help, we will gladly
accept any monetary
donations to put toward
hired labor costs.
Even if you don’t
consign animals,
volunteering to help
with handling the cattle
is a great way to meet
fellow beef producers,
see a wide variety of
cattle in a single
location, and get a good
feel for what’s
happening in the cattle
business.
The VBPA Board of
Directors, along with
UVM Extension and the VT
Agency of Agriculture
are working hard to keep
these Feeder/Stocker
Sales successful so that
the beef industry in the
state continues to
grow. If you have any
questions regarding the
sale, please contact
Nelson Lamson at
802-457-5140 [log in to unmask]
Please see Sale
