Thanks Marty & Greg!  Now that I know, I can wait for AX 7.

To answer Marty’s question:  yes I can use the browser based version, and most of the time I do.  The only reason I’ve kept the fat client suite on my Windows VM’s is for the Application Generator app, whose functionality I didn’t think was available on the browser version.  And that’s just for the very rare need of ever having to update the application we use (though I haven’t since we deployed it, so what’s my worry, right?)…

Thanks again,

Funny, this is the second AX/Win8 question I have seen in as many days.

AX 6.5 is not compatible with Windows 8/8.1 (at least, not when using an Oracle DB on the back end).  AX 7 is compatible with Win 8/8.1 (not sure about 10, though!).  Plans are underway to upgrade to AX 7.0 SP1 this fall.

Actually, my understanding is  windows 8 support for the AX fat client comes with AX version 7.  Upgrade to that version is planned for this fall.

Any reason, you can't use the browser based version of Document Manager.  It is functionally equivalent to the fat client.

Has anyone else tried the ApplicationXtender app on Windows 8 since 6.5 was released?  I have a Windows 7 VM that it runs fine on, but I get the same errors that Seth had gotten on my Windows 8.1 VM, even if I change the MAC address for the Win 8.1 VM to be the same as the Win 7 VM (hence the same IP address).  I'm looking to discontinue the Win 7 VM and wanted to make sure everything I need works on the Win 8.1 VM.

I've installed the Oracle Instant Client and the AX app twice on the Win 8.1 VM and get the same results.

Any ideas?

My understanding is that AX 6.5 will support windows 8, but earlier versions are not supported.  The upgrade to AX 6.5 is not planned until Spring 2015.  In the mean time, I would think if it is not entirely a firewall issue, then re-imaging with Windows 7 may be a solution until AX is upgraded.

Certainly you will need to get the firewall issues straightened out first.  If that does not resolve the problem, you may need to look at re-imaging with Windows 7, or at least having the EAS folks check to see if Windows 8 support is available for AX yet.

[log in to unmask]" type="cite">Hello,

We have just replaced our ApplicationXtender scanning PC in RSENR and I can't figure out why the new install of AX won't         work properly.  I followed the instructions provided online (Installed Oracle Instant Client first and then AX Scanning Station Install) and did some research but couldn't find the cause of this error that occurs when starting the program:

It does come up and ask for a login when I first launch Document Manager - when I enter my NetID I then get this error.  On our old system it never asked for a login and would authenticate the logged on Windows domain there something I am missing here??

Thanks for your help!
