Each year Vita-Learn and Vermont ASCD recognize a new cadre of Vermont educators who exemplify innovative and transformative instructional practices.    The selection process for 2016 is a 2 part process. Both steps must be completed by deadline to be considered.  (Self nominations are accepted).

By December 15 -   Step 1 Nominate a candidate from your school who exemplifies innovative and transformative teaching.

By December 21 - Step 2 Candidates submit required documentation

Selection process

Both steps must be completed by their deadline to be considered.

PART 1 - Nomination Deadline December 15

A nomination is submitted using the online Project IGNITE nomination form by deadline.   Self nomination or nomination by colleague are encouraged. Only one candidate per school will be selected each year.

Recognized educators must be a certified teacher who designs instruction and implements instruction directly with students. (i.e. librarian, classroom teacher, specials teacher, etc)

Administrators and educational instructors who support the recognized instructor will also be recognized as part of a team and invited to be part of the recognition luncheon - but the recognition centers around a candidate in the trenches working with students.

Ideal candidates design and implement innovative and transformation practice (See Vita-Learn Transformative Teaching Indicators) that aim at teaching the “whole child” Whole Child criteria from ASCD

You can only nominate one educator per year. In the event that we receive more than 1 nominee from you, only the first nomination will be considered.  Please obtain consent from the person you are nominating prior to filling out application.

PART 2 - Documentation Deadline December 21

Only candidates who have been nominated using the process above will be considered.  Each nominee must submit requested documentation to the IGNITE committee by deadline to be considered.  Nominator should encourage and support the nominee in meeting this deadline.  The documentation request will be sent to both nominator and nominee upon completion of Part 1 (see above)

The 2016 Project IGNITE cadre will be notified in early January and invited to bring a team from their school to  day of Recognition and Powerful Conversation Banquet sponsored by Vermont ASCD and Vita-Learn.  Teams are made up of 1 educator, 1 school leader, and 1 edtech specialist that support innovative practices with technology in their schools.
