I've found the ruler tool to be pretty great in Tinkercad, it's just not extremely intuitive.  This is a pretty good list of it's features

+1 for Tinkercad, although I wish there were a good measuring tool like the measuring tape in Sketchup.

For those on Chromebooks, I have been using the 3DView/Click to Open 3D extensions to spot check student models before printing. I still need to process the final job in Windows (when will someone come up with a web-based slicing program for Makerbot?) but if they export and share in Drive I can check them and house them there, then pick them up via Drive for Desktop on the Windows machine. I have printed ~60 (big) parts for water rockets in the last two weeks, and it has been exciting but also challenging to have so many students printing at once!

Another browser based CAD program that I know some schools in NH are using is TinkerCAD - https://www.tinkercad.com
Also free and created by the folks at AUTODESK. Makes for great transition of skills to full blown CAD systems.
