USU 2016 Announcement!

 

Early registration for the United States Universities Debating Championship 2016 – Morehouse College edition is officially open at this link: http://goo.gl/forms/r19JIQdRp7

 

Early registration will close on February 9, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. EST, and we expect to notify teams regarding their initial allocations the following week.  We hope to provide teams with initial allocations early so that they can confirm their airline tickets while prices to Atlanta are still attractive.  It is strongly recommended that you complete this initial early registration phase, which will assist with final planning for the tournament.  Details regarding how payment can be made will be released in February.  All final payments will be due by March 8, 2016 and arrangements are being made to accept payments online. 

 

The tournament will be held April 8-11, 2016, with 8 preliminary rounds.  We plan to host America’s Cup on Friday, April 8, 2016, followed by four preliminary rounds on Saturday and Sunday April 9-10, and culminating in final rounds on Monday, April 11.  Entry fees are  $75/participant to accommodate increased costs resulting from the slightly longer schedule than included in our bid. We, however, believe that following the 8-round model will help ensure competitive equity by rotating teams equally through all positions, provide more educational opportunities by increasing debate for all, and reflect the consensus of the community following last summer’s informal survey.

 

While no preliminary team cap has been set, the tournament is operating with an overall team cap of 200.  We expect, but cannot guarantee, that everyone will be allowed at least three teams per institution and, if space permits, we will allocate additional spaces for those teams requesting them during the early registration period.

 

Last, you can begin making those hotel reservations now.  We have reserved a large block of rooms at the Westin for $149/night for doubles.  We will increase the room block if we begin to fill up early, so make those reservations fast.
