I am forwarding this announcement of an intensive learning opportunity for data and visualization that may be of interest.

Save the Date!  The Data and Visualization Institute forLibrarians will be held May 23 - 27, 2016 at the James B. Hunt Jr.Library, North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.   Applications for theInstitute will be accepted beginning on February 15, 2016.https://www.lib.ncsu.edu/datavizinstitute The Data and VisualizationInstitute for Librarians is a week-long course providing the opportunity forlibrarians passionate about research and scholarship to immerse themselves inlearning about data science and visualization in collaboration with academicpeers. Participants will develop knowledge, skills, and confidence tocommunicate effectively with faculty and student researchers about their dataand be able to provide initial consultancy on the course topics. Led by expertinstructors, sessions will be interactive and will focus on mastery of coreconcepts, with hands-on exposure to select open source and highly usedcommercial tools. Sharing of practices and experiences across institutions willbe encouraged. A final curriculum will beavailable in early February, including topics such as:    
   - Data Exploration and Statistical Analysis
   - Bibliometric Analysis
   - Data Visualization
   - Data Description, Sharing, and Reuse
   - Working with Messy Data
   - Gathering and Analyzing Textual and Multimedia Data
   - Open Data and Open Science
