I hear ya Tom. I love openshot as well. Way better than wevideo.

That combined with youtube-dl, ffmpeg, and audacity...you have the best media tools for video/audio editing

IMHO...
It's just a matter of convincing everyone to use Linux. Imagine if schools all changed to Linux? The tech budget would suddenly find a lot more money freed up from site licenses for various OS's, Computer purchases would be cheaper, students would learn how to control their own computers, problem solve issues and fix it themselves without having to re-image, by nature their accounts would be more secure...the benefits go on and on. I think schools just need to run sudo rm -rf /  on all tech and start over :)
Ok I'm off my Linux soapbox...

Oh, yes, I found this also. "On August 31, 2016 support and services will end for ScreenChomp, Snagit for Google Chrome™ extension, Knowmia Teach, Teach Pro, and Knowmia.com."

What's confusing about the statement is that they say "and the Google Chrome browser extension will end on 8/31/16." which is what I assumed they meant by the SnagIt Chrome Extension from the WebStore which works on the Chromebook. I could be reading it wrong.

It looks like Snagit isn't going away, unless I read this wrong.

While ScreenChomp, Knowmia.com, the Teach apps, and our Google Chrome browser extension have certainly been a part of that story, we've decided to end support and retire these products so we can increase our focus on our flagship

Snagit and Camtasia.

As you note, here are other free screencasting tools to replace SnagIt . I like Screencastify best for my Chromebook or if your school has WeVideo for Schools the build in screen recorder works well on a Chromebook.

End of service notice for those that hadn't seen it yet.

About $25 to keep the service
That's a steep price for educators.

RecordMyDesktop is still my favorite screencast tool.

Anyway, just passing it along.  Download your data before you have to pay.
