We had one of these incredible birds on Lake Champlain a few winters ago.  Bryan Pfeiffer got some great pictures of it that I’d bet he’d share if we ask him.

Here’s an article about new learning around their breeding habits.  Interesting adaptation by a species that is in decline.  But, what happens in the future when there is not as much ice available? (p.s. the picture in the article does the bird no justice)
