Lecturer in Stable Isotope Geochemistry of Sedimentary records
Job no: 498710
Work type: Full Time
Vacancy type: Internal Vacancy, External Vacancy
Categories: Academic - Teaching and Research
Macquarie is the university of pioneering minds. Globally recognised as one of Australia's leading research universities, Macquarie is a place where new possibilities come to light. At Macquarie you'll join a vibrant community of diverse perspectives, all working towards a brighter future for our communities and our planet. Surrounded by beautiful parkland campus, our students and staff are free to explore and discover.
Macquarie University hosts the largest geobiology and evolutionary biology program in Australia, with 42 research groups (http://www.gg.mq.edu.au/academics/) connected within the Genes to Geoscience and Marine Research Centres. Macquarie is a world leader in isotope geochemistry with the ARC Core to Crustal Fluids Centre of Excellence and also a member of the IODP Ocean Drilling program. This appointment will utilize world-class geochemical analytical facilities, including a new clumped stable isotope facility, and be placed in a dynamic intellectual environment with an ambitiously expanding program.
Within the Department of Earth and Planetary Science you will join a growing interdisciplinary team focused on oceanographic and palaeo environmental events recorded in the sedimentary record as it influences resource distribution and environmental change. This position will join recent academic appointments in sedimentary geochemistry, shale petrology, stratigraphy, and coastal sedimentary processes.
The position has a geological record focus, and preference will be given to candidates who have experience with stable isotopes as they relate to palaeoenvironmental change. Candidates with expertise using clumped isotopes are particularly encouraged to apply.
Within the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, the successful candidate will be expected to teach and carry out innovative research in these fields, and we are seeking individuals whose research interests and experience complement the research programs of current Macquarie University scientists in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Chemistry and Biomolecular Science.
The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain and develop an active externally funded research program, contribute to the teaching of sedimentology, general geology, marine science and palaeoceanography at undergraduate and masters levels, supervise higher degree research students; and contribute to the administration of the department and faculty.
To be considered for this role please address the selection criteria below and upload as a separate document.
