I've used the Vizio ones this year, purchased through Staples.

I go with soundbars. The music teacher refused a soundbar, but others have embraced (or at least accepted) them. :-)

I've been getting $100 bluetooth soundbar speakers and wall-mounting them.  The desktop speakers have been disappearing out of rooms at night.  I do a handful of rooms a year, working it into my replacement cycle.  The projectors' built-in speakers are just not workable for a classroom, and I feel like these are a necessary complement to my projector replacement cycle.

Hmm, before I started this job 12 years ago, the school had bought lots of PCs that came with "cheap, underpowered sets".  I've had a surplus of them ever since I started, and whenever a teacher asks for a set, that's what I give them, and I've never had any complaints.  A couple of teachers have gotten Smartboard speakers with their smartboards, at $300 a pop.  Do not buy those, if they break, Smart won't repair them,  If they're under warranty, they'll send you a new set, otherwise they tell you to throw them out and buy a new set.  Seriously?  Throw out $300 speakers after a year?!  When that happened, that teacher bought a very nice $99 sound bar from Walmart, mounted it under the smart board, and is very happy with it.

We use Koss UR10 for our student K-6.  They have a straight-cord with an adjustable headband.  We have ordered large lots of them from the Computer Supply People for less than $7 per pair.  The one flaw that we have found is that the wire pulls out of the plug-in when plugged into our foam iPad cases, but we solved that with headphone jack extenders.

Wise list folks:

What is your recommendation for speakers that get the job done in a classroom?  I've tried sets with subwoofers and satellite speakers, but sometimes the cords are an issue.  Cheaper, underpowered sets aren't quite loud enough.  Thoughts?
