Jumping in here ...

I think another part of the problem is readers' unwillingness or inability to differentiate between news, analysis, and opinion. This is exacerbated by the way news*papers* appear online. In a print newspaper, news stories and opinion pieces have historically been run in separate sections; online, they might be sitting next to each other on the home page. Throw in a few blogs -- also not news pieces -- and it's easy to overlook or ignore the differences. There are New York Times news articles and then there are Paul Krugman's columns. They are not the same and readers hooting about bias should not conflate the two.

The reality is many people, whether liberal or conservative, tend to believe the news sources which reflect their own personal biases are "unbiased". Therefore, many liberals will choose PBS/NBC/CNN/NYT as being "unbiased' and many conservatives will choose Fox/ Breitbart/ One America News/WSJ as being unbiased. Newsflash!! All the above are biased toward one particular ideology or other. To think otherwise is being terribly naïve. That is the truth as I see it, as imperfect as I am.
