A couple of things you can try that have worked for HP chromebooks with similar issues. We found when chromebooks become completely discharged they will not recharge correctly. On newer laptops without a removable battery the reset is to hold the power button for 20 seconds to force a hard reset. Make sure you don't have the AC adapter plugged in until after you reset it with the power key. If you perform an OS reset function (ctl, reload and power keys) the chromebook should be forced to restart the chrome OS.

I stumbled across this article the other day.  See if this helps?

We’re using the original NL 6 (for education markets).

More details:  light for the charger does not come on at all when charger is plugged in (even after changing the charger, port, internal cables).  ChromeBook works until the battery is dead - then we’re S.O.L.

We’ve replaced/checked everything except the mobo on these devices, swapping out parts which are known to be good to see if it makes a difference.  At no point can we get the green/orange light to come on - and we cannot get the device to power up.  We’ve even tried the old iPad trick of leaving the device plugged in for many hours to see if it was just “really dead.”  Also tried connecting an external display to see if it was simply a problem with the NL 6 screen.  Nope.

Also Drew - there are several NL6 models, but I imagine you are referring to the original NL6 and not some other flavor.

Drew,

Several of our schools are using the same model.  Only seen this once before.  One item to look at if you have not already is resetting the LVDS cable at both board and screen ends.

Do you think it is the battery/power issue or screen?  Does the charge light go from amber to green after it has been "charged" for a while indicating a good battery, but the power throughput to rest of the device isn't working as it should?  I know that with the CTL device that I am referring to it took a while to figure out the cause.

As Craig Donnan has added, CTL support is fairly good at trying to assist with these issues.  My assumption is that you have already gone that route...

Please let me know what "fix" you ultimately use as we have multiple schools running these.

Good luck!

Greetings!

We’re seeing a trend here, and wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem - and hoping someone might have a solution.

We have 12+  CTL NL6 ChromeBooks that are just out of warranty.  Suddenly, they do not accept a charge.  We’ve swapped chargers, charging ports, and the cables which link the port with the motherboard.  We’ve swapped batteries, and even tried removing the battery from the machine and powering up directly from the power supply (this often works with Macs which have a power/battery problem).  Nada.

Replacing the motherboard itself is almost as much as purchasing a new machine, so that’s not worth it.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Drew
