Description: The New Mexico Community Data Collaborative (NMCDC) is a successful library of databases and a network of over 60 analysts working for New Mexico non-profits organizations and local agencies. The NMCDC online platform (http://nmcdc.maps.arcgis.com/home/index.html) is a geographic information systems website with extensive ready-to use content shared with the public. It contains nearly 100 interactive maps and over 1000 indicators that cover health outcomes, resources, and social determinants in every neighborhood in the state, allowing exploration of chronic disease, healthcare access, early childhood, built environment, food issues, education and more. This webinar will describe the evolution and conceptual challenges of the Collaborative, demonstrate the online platform, and explore examples of collaborative community assessment for planning and policy change.

Speaker Bio: Thomas Scharmen is a community epidemiologist at the Office of Community Assessment, Planning, and Evaluation (New Mexico Department of Health) in Albuquerque, NM, and adjunct faculty at the University of New Mexico's Department of Community Medicine. He is also a coordinator and founding member of the New Mexico Community Data Collaborative (NMCDC), a library of databases and a network of over 60 analysts supported by New Mexico non-profit organizations and local agencies.

This webinar will be eligible for one hour of Medical Library Association (MLA) Continuing Education credit and will be archived for future viewing.
