AOE Proficiency-Based and Personalization Network Series

Goals:

1) Participants will construct a graduate profile and help refine a development process that can be brought back to their school system. A graduate profile can help students, parents, guardians, community members, and educators to develop a shared vision for the skills, abilities, and knowledge necessary in the 21st century;

2) Participants will review recommendations from national experts and identify strengths and challenges of their current grading system;

3) Participants will work with Amy Rex, former principal of Harwood UHS, to create a framework for implementing PLPs in their schools. In addition, they will evaluate the critical elements of a PLP, examine how PLPs might differ from grade level to grade level, and discuss ways to make the personalized learning planning process more engaging for students.

Deliverables:

1) An action plan that can inform their Continuous Improvement Plan around one of the above themes;

2) Practice with and understanding of the Plan Do Study Act cycle;

3) Resources around PLPs, graduate profiles, and grading practices; and

4) Information about moving work forward by participating in Learning Communities.
