Will,I echo much of what has been already posted. The schools I currently support are all Mac for Staff (until next year...then Chromebooks for the majority of them - woo hoo). The biggest step in the re-imaging process has been making sure that the user has all of their data backed up somewhere (cloud) and is accessible post re-imaging. Mark provided some nice pointers... We have "trained" much of the Staff over the last few years of re-imaging so the switch to Chromebooks and further re-imaging is less of an impact. We allow Staff to keep their devices year round. Re-imaging takes place at a set time depending on the school. Options that have worked best for us are: Either right after school and other Staff responsibilities end in June for a few days, later in the Summer just before inservice (my preference as then I can build in any Summer equipment updates, OS/application updates and while I am not being pulled in several directions at once) or within a set window at the beginning of the school year with Staff and myself having a bit of "flexibility". Having a loaner, such as a Chromebook or student MacBook that has already been re-imaged, is helpful. Not sure if you need a policy for this or just an established procedure. We do not have a policy in place. I work directly with the Admins to set the schedules.Good luck! My first time with the re-imaging process was a challenge a few years ago. Really need to provide/show the benefits and have buy-in by Admins and Staff to make it work smoothly - you don't want to create ill feelings between Staff and Tech...Cheers.Keith--On Wed, Dec 13, 2017 at 3:38 PM, Candy Chevalier <[log in to unmask]> wrote:Hello,At WCSU we ask the teachers to return them upon check out on the last day of school. If the teacher requests or if it is a year round employee or administrator, we make a personalized appointment. We also offer chromebooks to be checked to staff as an alternative to their windows based machines. If the staff member asks for a device to accommodate a professional development apparently we to accommodate the request.Candy ChevalierWCSU Coordinator of TechnologyOn Wed, Dec 13, 2017 at 8:35 AM, Scott Grant <[log in to unmask]> wrote:Last summer, I asked that everyone either ensure that all of their devices were left in the classrooms in a location I could find them, or contact me directly with the device, SN, Asset Tag #, and how long they planned to keep it. If it was something that needed to be touched during the summer, we made arrangements for it's return at an agreed upon date.-ScottOn Wed, Dec 13, 2017 at 8:18 AM, Will Hatch <[log in to unmask]> wrote:As I begin planning for summer work I'm wondering how to deal with the issue of staff taking mobile devices home for the summer. I'd like to have them for some portion of the summer at least to inventory, update, or re-image. There has not been a system in place for this in the past, and I expect that folks are going to be unhappy with a policy that requests they leave their device on campus at the end of the school year. Wondering how others deal with this. Thanks for any feedback and contact off-list if you wish.--Will HatchDirector Of TechnologyAddison Central School District------------------------------
