Here’s a question for lawyers - but I figure y’all might know something about this question which came up in one of the high school class here: is it legal to mine bitcoin in the US?

I know something about it from a *technical* perspective, and also know it’s really not useful/feasible anymore (arguably).  But what the legality of this?  Some students wanted to setup a system to mine bitcoin, but the teacher (and I) could not give a definitive answer as to whether or not this would be *legal* for a school project.
