*Office of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs * January 22, 2018 To: UVM Community Fr: Annie Stevens, Vice Provost for Student Affairs Re: Alleged threats incident While most students were away on winter break, there were developments in the case involving a former Continuing Education student overheard allegedly making threats toward African American members of our community. On January 2, 2018, The University of Vermont learned through news media that the case had been dismissed by the court, for lack of probable cause to proceed. A campus-wide communication announcing the court’s dismissal of the case was distributed on that date. The written opinion supporting the dismissal has not been made public, and has not been made available to the University, after several attempts. The individual involved is not currently enrolled at UVM. In any situation where a perceived threat to the safety of our community is reported, UVM will act promptly and professionally to do all we can within the law to protect and support all members of our community and to uphold the values of our University.
