I was able to connect successfully with settings below (from home, as a test), but haven't sent data automatically yet.  Note that the protocol is FTP and the transfer settings are ''Active."  FG tells me that you have to have ports 1025 to 1035 open; I plan to work with our network admin this week to get us connected from school.  I'll keep this thread updated with my findings.

Thanks,

George

In case anyone has not yet started down this road and is freaked out by this whole conversation...I just thought I'd mention that the flat file upload through the browser works beautifully.  Changing your existing student fitnessgram accounts from internal student numbers to state student numbers, on the other hand...

FitnessGram is using TLS that replaces SSL.

I was able to setup a connection to Fitnessgram using FileZilla client. However I was not able to copy any data. I was able to create files and folders on the remote site but couldn't drag files from my computer to the remote site.

I have a support ticket open with them and will let you know what I find.

Bob et al.,

I am not working with this process, however, can you confirm that FitnessGram works using FTP and does not work with SFTP?  I read in this thread that they do not support FTP (an assumption is that SFTP is included in this) but it seems the service is allowed?  Clarification or a definitive answer to whether it is "supported" or not might be helpful.   If FTP works, a further assumption is that SFTP could also be allowed (but perhaps configuration on FitnessGram's side?)

From looking at the screenshot, one issue that could be arising is a disconnect between the protocol and the port.

FTP generally uses port 21.

SFTP generally uses port 22.

The screenshot shows the SFTP protocol attempting to use port 21.

Two observations:

1. I really hope that they don't support FTP at all - it's an accident waiting to happen.
2. If this works with SFTP/port 22, attempt to connect with FTP/port 21. If you can connect with FTP, that's a flag that there are potentially other security issues.

Cheers,

Bill

That's the direction I'm going now.

PowerSchool (hosted) > Local FTP Server > FitnessGram

Not sure if you can do this if you are hosted by PowerSchool, but try using a CSV autosend to a local server folder, then perform the upload with curl.

Yes, I also tried this.  I have gotten conflicting stories from the Fitnessgram helpdesk.  I was told that they don't support sftp.  You might want to put in a ticket and see if you get the same answer.  If you can make sftp work through PowerSchool, please share how you get it done.  This would be my preferred method.  Fitnessgram is suggesting FileZilla.

Hi Tina,
I'm trying to set up an FTP session between PowerSchool and Fitnessgram.
I always get "Operation timed out"

This came up in my support call as well.  Fitnessgram says we need to set the 'time out in' in the PowerSchool Autosend set-up window to 120 seconds.  Not sure if this will help you or not.

Hi,

I just got off the phone with Fitnessgram support.  The problem isn't resolved.  However, I did learn something.  Fitnessgram says you can't cut and paste your credentials from the Fitnessgram import window into your ftp client.  I was able to connect after typing them in by hand.  I hope that helps someone out there!

I've been working on it and establishing a connection to their FTP server has been challenging for some reason.  I've been back and forth with support numerous times and they've finally escalated the issue to their "Tier 3" support.  I have many other file transfers setup, with other systems, using SFTP/FTP and these are all working fine and were easy to setup.  I've had to be persistent with them.  I'll let you know what happens...

Thanks,

George

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone else is working on ftp from PowerSchool to Fitnessgram.  While Fitnessgram provides ftp credentials they say they do not support it.  I have run into some challenges.  Has someone else made this work?  Can you share the secret?

Thanks for any clues!
